I love this last email from Elder Phippen. He is such a positive happy kid. Here is a picture of him and all the new trainers. If you look closely in all the little pictures you can see him in the background:).
Here is a picture of him and his new companion.
Hello Everyone,
This week has been absolutely insane. On Wednesday, the Assistants called and said that Farley and I had an emergency change and we had to be in Arequipa by 10am on Thursday. My comp for the past 4 days has been Elder Tapia. He is a Chilean and has been an awesome comp for the little time that we have had together. The area I will be in is called Villa El Golf. The area is huge and I cannot wait to work there. They say the ward helps a lot and that there is great deal of potential. Now about the email title. For those of you who haven't served a mission, having a son is what we say when we train a brand new missionary. So I am going to train a greenie. I am super excited. Opening a huge area and training is a little daunting, but really I cannot wait.
Saying goodbye to Elder Farley was kinda hard after 4 months, but we knew it was going to happen. Matarani will always have a special place in my heart even if we didn't baptize. The branch grew a lot and the people's faith grew as well. We had tons of fun. One of the biggest miracles I was able to see there in Matarani was that of a young man, whose family has been less active for 10 years, who wasn't even thinking about a mission. We worked with him one time and that's when it all changed. We were able to see him exercise the Atonement in his life and have a true desire to read the Book of Mormon. He is blessing the sacrament and now planning and preparing for serving a mission. His family is now one of the strongest in the branch.
This work changes lives. Whether they be less-active for 10 years or a new investigator, people feel the love of Christ when they listen to the message. Not because of the imperfect missionary sharing it, but rather they feel the love of a perfect Father in Heaven through the power of the Spirit. The work continues to move forward and my love for the people continues to grow as I see so many miracles. The Gospel continues to be true. Each time I am able to talk with someone the confirmation of it comes.
Love y'all tons.
Elder Phippen
