Tonight we received a notification that ALL temples were closing as of today.
JD and I were talking to the kids tonight. He relayed a comment from a battalion commander he interviewed while he was in Iraq in 2010--"Just by virtue of you being here when this conflict was raging, ensures that you are inextricably woven into the fabric of history." That quote is just as true now, as it was then. We are living in truly historical times--earthquakes, COVID-19, school closures, nationwide social-distancing directives, cancellations of major sporting events and seasons, and never before has the church temporarily closed ALL temples.
When January arrived this year the only thing Ashlynn wanted for her birthday was to go to the temple with her family. We called 3 different temples they were all full for family baptisms. I called the children and told them we were going to cancel the temple trip. As a I kissed Ashlynn goodnight the evening before her birthday tears streamed down her face as she said, "all I wanted was to go to the temple with everyone for my birthday." I woke up early and had an overwhelming feeling that we needed to make the temple happen. I text the kids and told them to meet in Brigham city. The temple baptism trip was back on. I am thankful we were able to fit that in before all the crazy of this year started.
I am so thankful Riley and Madeline were able to be sealed on February 29th in the Logan Temple for time and all eternity. As I look at this large group of people, I am thankful for eternal families.
Today we went to Pocatello to pick up Britton. We spent time with my dad, and JDs mom made us Hawaiian Haystacks, banana bread and cookies to take home. Yes, we are spoiled. I was able to visit my sister and her little kiddos. We kept our family visit to under ten people and we all felt healthy.
It truly is ALL about family
I am thankful for the prophet President Nelson. In Aprils 2019 conference he said,
"As we speak of our temples old and new, may each of us signify by our actions that we are true disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. May we renovate our lives through our faith and trust in Him. May we access the power of His Atonement by our repentance each day. And may we dedicate and rededicate our lives to serving God and His children—on both sides of the veil."
The temples may all be closed for a time. This makes it all the more important for us to follow this beautiful counsel given .
Always keep your sights on the TEMPLE!
President Monson, with the words changed around:)
