Yesterday, I listened to THIS All In, podcast. In the podcast, Brook Snow discusses meditation and the healthy part it plays in our lives.
Ashlynn's demeanor was significantly different this morning then it usually is. She is typically full of energy and singing incessantly. Today she was quiet and reserved, to the point I was concerned. I determined a scrumptious breakfast would snap her out of this despondent mood. It did not seem to help. It was quickly apparent that she was not in the mood for a day of strict guidelines and structure.
Some parents may welcome the fact that their child is being overly quiet. Ashlynn is never quiet and the look in her eyes was as if she felt defeat. As I was helping her with her hair, I remembered the podcast and decided to ask her if she would be interested in doing some meditation videos with me.
It amazed me how much she enjoyed it. Later in the day, I asked if she wanted to do some Yoga and she agreed. I don't think I have ever laughed so much while doing Yoga. She was making fun of the instructor profusely. Towards the end she giggled, "Meditation is much more fun than yoga" :).
Tonight, Ashlynn is back to her happy self. It is true, Yoga and meditation work, plus a little extra time and love!
I bought this plant and 2 others at Costco, on Monday. They were beautiful and I decided to let them all freeze. I am praying a little extra time and love will work on them as well!
Seriously, why is it that the word grandma does not sound like a cool word until you become one. Then it somehow becomes a badge of honor. I am going by Nana, but I have this shirt so I decided I can go by both.
My goodness, could he get any more perfect!?
The school sent this out tonight. I love these ideas and am
going to work very hard to incorporate these nutrients into our families daily routine.
I LOVE the wellness class I am taking.
Here are a few of my favorite thoughts from this last week.
With these facts, it is even more vital that during this time period we find ways to connect with others. My husband's family has a group chat that I love being part of. It is a simple social connection that provides a bright spot in my day. My daughter Alyssa and I talk everyday. That social connection always makes me feel joy.
I have thought about this paragraph many times. It has given me the desire to look for
more ways that I can serve others who may be feeling lonely.
I am also going to set a goal to hug my children 5 times a day, at least. I am not a hugger, so I have to be intentional about this. I am going to make sure we put phones away and talk at meal times and bedtimes.
With the social isolation we are all feeling right now, it seems important that I as a parent put forth some extra effort to help make up the difference for my children so they don't feel this absence so strongly.
Our family finally found a game that we love and can play without fighting!
HUGE SUCCESS!
