Tender mercie Christmas miracles

The guard Christmas party this year was so great.  On the way home our car was causing us some problems.  We were not sure what was going on. (our fuel pump went out) It would drive a few feet quit, we would have to sit for awhile and the wonderful process would start again.  Finally Jers tells everyone to be quiet as he says a prayer.  As he finishes, he sits for awhile, tries to start the car, off we go.  We made it out of camp dodge a least:). When he gets the car going again he states I'm not taking the freeway,  I am going the long way.  The car does not cause us too much trouble until we get almost home.  This happens to be at a main stoplight where many of the people from our old ward would be going by at that EXACT TIME!!!!!  I am soooo embarrassed.  I say "why did you go this way? everyone will see us."  He replies "I know, that's why,  I new we would need the help they would be willing to offer."  Offer they did!!!!!  Within seconds the younger kids and I had a ride home,  Jers had tons of people offering to help.  How blessed and loved we felt at the tender mercy of that moment.

The following day I had agreed to let Jers take the car hunting and go without one due to the fact that the weather had been nice.  I could walk Ashlynn to preschool and other than that we could just stay home that day.  It would be a lot of walking because I would also need to go back and pick her up.  We woke up to freezing cold rain and wind.  I had no car and I new Ashlynn would not be happy if we skipped preschool.  WHAT TO DO???  I had decided we would bundle up REALLY good and just walk.  I was a little concerned how Ashlynn would handle walking in the rain & wind to school:).  I went on about my day but had a prayer in my heart to know what I should do.  I really didn't want to bother anyone for help.   All the sudden my phone rang.  It was a preschool friend I had never met.  The mom wondered if her daughter could come over to our house,  play with Ashynn,  then she would take them to school and bring Ashlynn home. UM YES!!! 2 tender mercies in less than 24 hours.  I felt very blessed by our own little Christmas miracles indeed!!!

First of all I was a little sad to think we may NOT have snow for Christmas this year.  We ended up having PLENTY!!!  I could not have been happier for the kids to be out of school for 2 extra days of school.  They had a ball playing out in the snow.   I LOVE Christmas break and Christmas is one time of year I actually enjoy the snow.  Christmas break ends in 2 days so it is free to leave any time:).

Christmas cookies, I always look forward to these until it's time to clean up  and then I think I NEVER want to make these again.  However next year will come and I will once again be excited to do cookies as will my younger kids:). Somehow I forget the mess and remember how fun it is to crank up the Christmas music and make cookies.
The annual  Clive SANTA visit.  We have a special neighborhood to warrant a visit from this jolly man every year.
Ashlynn kept begging to go for a picnic.  I am NOT a cold weather picnic fan!!  We solved the begging by her and I making Rudolph lunch bags one afternoon then for dinner we had a family picnic. NEXT to the glowing fire:)
I will be VERY sad to not watch Ashlynns preschool Christmas program next year.  It is so very adorable.  Seriously cutest Christmas program I have ever seen.

Ashlynn has been begging to do Santa pancakes.  I am so thankful I still have one kid who still thinks these little projects aren't lame:)
AShlynn had a build a bear birthday party.  It was adorably fun!! Birthday parties are so much fun.

Christmas Moment

As I was baking one evening, I glanced into the living room to find Ashlynn being more still than she normally is.  For the next little while I watched her as she glanced at the details of the Christmas tree and all the gifts.  It was a beautiful moment to watch her as she just smiled and looked at everything.  I love this season!!!  For some reason, it seems like  it comes and goes quicker with every year.  From the day after Thanksgiving, it's a battle at times to not get caught up in all the worldly parts of it and easily miss the whole meaning of the season.  How thankful I am for little ones who help ME to remember to slow down and take in the magic of this beautiful time of year.

Thankful To KNOW!!

As I was looking for a few ideas for Ashlynn's primary talk, I came across a blog. As corney
as it may sound really touched my heart.  I can't imagine NOT knowing the things I know through being a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.  I can't imagine not knowing that I would someday see my Mom, Grandparents and other loved ones again.  I can't imagine thinking that this life was it.  It is so easy to take for granted  the fact that I know these things because I have ALWAYS known them.  I can't remember a time I did not know them deep in my heart.  To read that others may not even realize many of these truths our church teaches,  well, it was humbling to me.  I am SO thankful for this article and blog today! This is her blog. Her article below is worth reading.

Finding the Family Proclamation on the Passenger Seat by Angela Fallentine

"Several years ago as a single adult, I was living and working in Washington, D.C.  As is customary for all vehicles in that area, I needed to get my car inspected in order to pass the appropriate safety and emissions standards.

I arrived at a garage one afternoon to find the lineup for inspections about 8 or 9 cars long. It was a beautiful spring day, so I rolled down the windows, turned off the car and pulled out a copy of The Family: A Proclamation to the World, which I kept in my car along with some other church material for times such as these. My stake president had recently counseled each member to commit it to memory, so I thought this free time allowed me the perfect opportunity to do so.

Eventually, my turn came to get my car inspected. One of the men who did the inspections told me he'd drive my car into the garage and asked me to wait in the adjacent waiting room until it was completed.

Time ticked on and as I watched other customers come in and out, my heart began to sink thinking that something must be very wrong with my car for it to be taking so long. I was working for a non-profit organization at the time and money was scarce. With each minute that passed, the heavier my heart became.

After what felt like a lifetime, the gentleman came into the waiting room from the garage with the receipt saying that I passed the inspection and to please pay for it at the cashier.

What a relief! I walked out to where he had parked my car and found him waiting. His eyes were full of intensity when he asked, "Miss, miss, can I please talk to you for a minute?" I responded that it was fine, and then he proceeded to share some words which I will never forget.

"I want to apologize for taking so long with your car inspection. You see, when I drove your car into the garage, I noticed a document on your passenger seat. I was drawn to it and instead of bringing your car back to you, I sat in your car in the garage reading it over and over again. What is this church? What is this document about the family? Can I have a copy?  It said that it was written by apostles.  Do you mean to tell me that there are apostles and prophets here on the earth, just like in Jesus' time?  Please, please, I need to know."

I was almost speechless, but gathered my thoughts and began testifying to him that there are indeed prophets and apostles here on this earth, just as in the time of Jesus Christ.  I told him about the Prophet Joseph Smith and the restoration of the gospel, and part of that meant that we have a living prophet and apostles today.  I proceeded to give him everything I had in my car related to the Church, and the conversation ended with a sincere expression of gratitude from this kind and humble man.

As I drove away, tears filled my eyes as I realized that it was not by chance I left a copy of The Family: A Proclamation to the World on my seat that day.

I have never forgotten that experience, nor the look of eagerness in that man's eyes when asking if there were apostles and prophets on earth today.  It was a powerful lesson on following promptings, sharing the gospel and the reality and power of modern revelation."

HALLOWEEN is a WONDERFUL time of year

I LOVE the month of Halloween. Every year is a little more different for me.  When our kids were little Halloween was spent with tons of family eating soup, visiting grandparents, relatives and friends.  Once we moved to Iowa it was spent with kids walking around the neighborhood the day BEFORE Halloween.  Now it is spent with kids going all different directions.  Ashlynn is really the only one who stayed with just mom and Dad all night. WEIRD!!!

Britton even ran the neighborhood with his friends.  When he would see us he would act as if we were strangers and keep on running.  Can my kids really all be getting this big?  How CUTE are these kiddos???  I Love to see all the little and big kids dressed up on Halloween. Soo Cute!
As you can clearly see by the year on this can of apples they are OLD!!!!    We had opened them.  My kids didn't like them they were no longer crisp.  I was ready to toss them when a friend said to make apple crisp with them.  WHAT??  I really need to learn how to use my food storage items.
For Family Home evening we did just that.  It was obvious that it wasn't fresh apples but it was good and I felt all domestic in that I used dried food storage items to make a dessert:)

Ashlynn had a  preschool thing the other night. The kids were all excited to get to go and see what she has been doing.  She loves her school!!! I love all the cute little songs she comes home singing from school.  I also love that on cold days the teachers come out and get her and I never have to get out of my car:). WOW that sounds kinda lazy.:) Still very true!

Not sure why this is upside down.  If you have not read this book at Halloween.   Next year do!!!  It is so FUNNY!!
The boys cannot get Ashlynn to stop BEGGING them to
with her. It is pretty cute to see them outside.  Her trying to tackle them.  Them laughing at her trying to be so tough.  It doesn't matter what the weather is she just wants to be outside.  I love it.  The boys can be watching TV or something and all it takes is her saying common please,  they just can't turn her sad face down so outside they go even in the dark.

My friend in Granger has this little music class she does.  It is the cutest thing ever!!! She had the kids dress up for  Halloween week and do SPOOKY songs.  Ashlynn loves it.

I Love the little weird things TJ MAXX always has around the holidays. I usually don't buy the food but I thought this one was pretty darn cute.
BUY this cute kit that keeps Ashlynn quiet in the store, come home and make it, Ashlynn thinks its so fun to bake with mom, kids and the neighbors come home to a treat and thank you a HUNDRED times over for being so nice and it only cost 3 dollars.  That's a deal!
I LOVED the party the mutual had for the primary kids this year.  I thought it was adorable.

I Love how Daxon is looking at his Dad in this picture.  It makes me smile.

Alyssa bought this crazy expensive costume to wear to school.  She decided it was worth the cost because she could wear it all month long.  She didn't wear it the rest the month.  I bought this Jacket whatever ya wanna call it at a garage sale for $2 dollars.  OKAY to be fair , this is why I say it was crazy expensive. I am TOTALLY cheap!!!! I wondered if I wanted to spend 2 dollars on the jacket. Alyssa decided she would be a spy or something.  I Love her she does something that makes me smile every day!

I Love her because she is still young enough to think its fun to share candy!!!

The other day as I was waiting for Ashlynn to get out of preschool I came across a recipe for apple butter.  Sounded kinda weird but I kept thinking about it and decided to try it out.
The recipe was 8 apples cored and sliced
cinnamon to your liking
put in crock pot for 4 hrs on high
add 3/4 cup organic 100 percent apple juice i used store brand.
stir cook 4 more hrs on high
blend in food processor
Can I just say this surpasses anything I thought it might taste like.  It is TASTY!!!!!
The other day I put it on those 100 calorie thin buns toasted with this cheese.  I ended up having it for breakfast lunch and dinner.  My kids did not share my love.  I had to cook for them,  they wanted a REAL meal they said!!!  Whats not real about apples, cheese and bread for dinner:). The person who poster it puts it on her toast and in her oatmeal.  I have no idea what blog it was on or I would give her credit:).   If you want to make something that taste like FALL this is it:)

You might be a redneck:)

We have all been laughing this week about these few things...

This is the AWESOME picture Alyssa's brothers strategically  placed for her to see as she closed her eyes to go to sleep one night.  She was NOT impressed.  The rest of us laughed pretty hard:)

Ashlynn makes us laugh
Alyssa & Riley listens to Jeff Foxworthy,  redneck jokes on the way home from seminary.  They think Ashlynn's words need to be sent in.
If your 4 year old says she can't wait to go to the fish & gun store (meaning Bass pro shop) to see Santa instead of the mall.  You might be a redneck:).

Her newest thought that she likes to remind us all of daily is "I did like broccoli when I was little, but now I don't."

I have a mind that never stops, if it is not listening to talks on cd or something it can be very destructive/crAzY at times:)  The last few nights,  I wake up in the middle of the night and off it goes, as I have tried to keep it towards thinking POSITIVE. Help it not worry about things.. (important things such as,  I wonder if when I went to the dentist yesterday he accidentally or purposely would have done something to make my teeth start going crooked again. Maybe he would have made it so I would need more dental work, my jaw hurts really bad.  If I don't do A today with my kids,  will that cause them to not want to do B when they grow up, then it will be because of me, sounds reasonable RIGHT? Like I said destructive kinda CraZy :) Anyways,  I have had this recurring thought.

It comes from a movie I have not seen in years but love very much.  The line that keeps popping into my head is from Mary Poppins. She is talking to Jane and Michale about the outing with good old DAD,  she says, "sometimes the person we love through no fault of his own cant see past the end of his nose."  Jane replies,  Past the end of his nose.  Mary replies,  Sometimes a little thing can be quite important.

Why would I keep having this thought?  The first few days I was unsure.  However a few days after having it numerous times I was putting on earrings when I had a thought "LOOK UP."  I did and this quote was on my dresser from December 2011.  I'm pretty sure that's the last time I read it.

IT READS  "For if there is sin against life, it consists perhaps not so much in despairing of life as in hoping for another life and in eluding the implacable  grandeur of this life.
Robert Camus

I sometimes forget to look past the end of my own nose. I see the work of the moment instead of the  IMPLACABLE GRANDEUR of this MOMENT, this season, this time of life.

During this same wake up call week as I was hoping by some miracle the dishes would be done when I went downstairs and perhaps instead of being thankful for a working Husband, I may have been being a little annoyed that J.D. would be late yet again due to a guard meeting.    This song came on.  The weird thing about this is Alyssa LOVES the guy who sings this song and listens to his CD often.  I however had never noticed the words until that moment.  It was the perfect words that I needed to listen to at that moment.

May my eyes be FOCUSED well enough to see past the end of my own nose.  May I remember that those little moments that seem monotonous at times really can be quite important in the eyes of my husband and children..  May I notice ALWAYS the IMPLACABLE GRANDEUR of this life God has given to me dirty dishes and all:)

As the kiddos were all hanging out the other day J.D. realized we had 2 sets of twins in the house.  We decided that must mean you will have good luck or something.  Britton sure did think so.

Can I just say I LOVE having ASHLYNN home!!!  I love going to the science center with her.  Everything is so fun and exciting when you are her age.  The girl just has so much energy and love for everything in life.   I want to be just like her  when I grow Up.  Okay she could be more quiet and calm in church. She will be someday I am sure:).  When she freaks out about the littlest thing or gets excited over everything J.D. and I just look at each other Shake our head and repeat the line from the sound of music ."Oh she's alright captain, She's just happy!"

I love going with her and other little friends to Wednesday 50 cent off Happy Meal day before heading over to preschool:).
I Love how she Loves McDonalds & I have to say, I kinda love the southwestern grilled chicken salad they have myself.

I LOVE this zoo!!! Not because it's all that cool but,  I love that it is open year round.  My other kids are really starting to fight me on going to the zoo.  I LOVE the zoo as does Ashlynn so its where we go to hang out. Hey we have a pass.  It's cheap entertainment.  Plus we ALWAYS feel right at home when we r at the zoo.  LOL:)

The other day Ashlynn and I were drawing Halloween pictures.  We have some great talent around here as you see:).  Before school she was make believe playing with her projects from school and the Halloween picture.   After school she hands me an envelope with this cute little letter in it.:)
The first picture I drew with a black cat, bats a moon, pumpkin and ghosts has not been seen since the day I received this sweet letter.  HUMMM I wonder where it is?  I wonder if the teacher really thinks I made it for her?  I wonder if she thinks Ashlynns Mom is a little crazy?  Okay that goes without saying,  but anyway it made me laugh!

What to do with that rhubarb & muffins w/ mom

I love how Ashlynn is all about rainbows right now.  She writes her name rainbow and the other day at preschool activity her special picture she said had to be a dog or rainbow.  I voted rainbow.
wake up a sluggish belly
Ashlynn & I decided to make some healthy muffins the other day.
The muffins didn't turn out great.  Kinda dry. The dough was so thick, I decided to pour 1/2 in a bread pan  the kids loved it:)  Why these muffins r so good for you, ground flaxseed contain prebiotics, unique fibers that fuel the growth of probiotics, greek yogurt boasts more probiotics(gut friendly bacteria) than regular yogurt.3 strawberriespromote digestion and healthy bowel movements with insoluble fiber.  TMI

With that info whats not to LOVE right?:)  Rileys guts were bothering him for a week after he ate these.  coincidence  or not???? HUM:)  I kept telling him it was just his belly trying to wake up LOL:)

They didn't bother the rest of us we loved them.  If you want the recipe it can be found in the august 2011 magazine or I can give it to you.

(May not wake up your belly but it will make your taste buds smile:)
I needed to come up with a quick dessert.  I had rhubarb I came across this recipe.  My first thought was yuck!!!!  Because of time I decided to try it.  YUMMYYYYYYY!!!!!!  It was so tasty.
all you do is cover the bottom of a cake pan with rhubarb
sprinkle with 1 pkg strawberry jello, 1 cup sugar, 3 cups marshmallows.  I know kinda weird.  you should try it:)  make a white cake mix pour it over.  Bake 350 40 min or so.   I poured it out then decided that didn't look so great.  I put it back in the pan and covered it with whipping cream.
Now that looks tasty:)
